David Allen Harris; "In the forrest," Still...

After 12 years of shooting for the joy of composition, I was encouraged by the well-known Washington DC artist Michael Platt to exhibit my work.

Forlorn - 2010

My first shows as a fine art photographer were in DC at the semi-annual non juried Artomatic exhibition. The Washington DC Commission on Arts and Humanities purchased five of my photos as part of their Art Bank program. Encouraged by my early success I continued to participate in Artomatic.

The collection of works in this show represents the best of my nature shots from Artomatic and new works shot in local parks and watersheds.

October Featured Artist - Ken Vallario

Ken Vallario is an artist from New Paltz, NY.  His work has shown in New York, Philadelphia and throughout the Northeast.  His work is an eclectic attempt to take the fractured elements of 20th century modernism and recombine them to form a constructive dynamic style suitable for our 21st century ambitions. Ours is an age of deep complexity.  Vallario responds to this complexity by attempting to re-imagine the centrality of the human being in a cosmos that gets more and more illusive with every advance in knowledge.  The struggle for identity and meaning in a world of parallel universes and post-modern deconstruction signals for Ken Vallario that the act of painting has become the highest form of philosophy.  As the anxiety of influence increases every day so does the need to transcend this with an alchemical breakthrough.  Commitment to humanity and an optimism about the future drives these works, as does a desire for honest one of a kind works, that stand alone, as fully developed expressive works.  Some of his more recent works like the one above, The Heart of Markets, are accompanied by essays that delve more deeply into his philosophy of 21st century art-making.  So we hope to see you at the opening this Friday October 1st.  You can see more of his works at www.kenvallario.com

His work as a painter and a freelance designer has involved local shows, workshops, adult classes, and teaching as adjunct college faculty. For the past 20 years, David has focused on his passion for landscape and atmospheric effect. He lives and works in Central Pennsylvania.
He uses the painting signature "Gabriel" as a dedication to the enduring affects of his Italian grandfather (Gabriel Bottini) on his interest in nature and appreciation of the world around him. His landscapes are signed Gabriel with David's signature on the back of each work. David’s work is in art galleries in Santa Fe, Washington, D.C., Lancaster, & Philadelphia and private collections throughout the US.
